On April 26 and 27 in Vienna took place the preparatory meetings for 2018 Western Balkans Summit in London with representatives of Western Balkans think tanks and activist organizations. The fifth Western Balkans Summit under the Berlin Process Initiative will take place in London on the 9-10 July 2018.
On April 26, the UK Summit Coordinator welcomed and hosted five thematic working groups, focused on Gender, Security, Economic Stability, Political/Legacy and Youth and Civil Society. Groups discussed based on the respective Policy Briefs prepared by the Civil Society Forum and elaborated recommendations for the Presidency of the upcoming Summit.
On April 27, took place a joint reflection on the future of the Berlin Process and on the contribution expected from Civil Society of the region. Over fifty representatives of the Western Balkan civil society gathered and discussed on the role and limits of the regional cooperation, on obstacles/drivers to regional cooperation and how civil society can play its role and provide a significant contribution. Several reflections were made, spacing from the need to focus only on few issues; producing and publishing well defined indicators; promoting concrete examples of positive contributions provided by civil society; engaging to the technical level of the public administration of the region and to the regional structures; ensuring a more inclusive and citizen linked consultation process within the regional cooperation initiatives.
