On April 5, the international Conference “The Western Balkans in the European Union: Enlargement to what, accession to what?” took place in the aftermath of the 60th anniversary of the Rome Treaty and in the wake of the Italian Summit of Berlin Process taking place in July 12 in Trieste.
The Italian Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Vincenzo Amendola, made a reflection on the state of the European Union, the Italian position toward the Western Balkans and their integration in the EU, as well as announced the initiatives the Italian Government is undertaking in the framework of the WB6 Summit in Trieste.
Mr. Ardian Hackaj, Director of ShtetiWeb was a panelist of the session “Sustaining Connectivity and Transformation in the Western Balkans”. He underlined the anchoring aspects that the Berlin Process allows for, as one of the most innovative and recent regional cooperation initiatives in the Western Balkans since its establishment in 2014.
Today, the Berlin Process is complementing the EU integration process by enhancing business, political, youth and civil society connectivity of the WB6 with EU respective counterparts.
The Conference was organized by Istituto Affari Internazionali in cooperation with Centre Franco-Autrichien pour la Rapprochement en Europe and CIFE, Centre International de Formation Européenne.
