About us
The Cooperation and Development Institute (CDI) is an independent, non-profit think tank based in Tirana, Albania. Since 2000, CDI has been working to improve public policy through evidence-based research, inclusive dialogue, and strategic outreach.
At present, CDI’s work tackles a range of development topics and challenges across four key program areas:
We use research, roundtables, forums, and publications to disseminate CDI’s latest findings and thinking to decision-makers in politics, economy and society.
Organizational Structure
CDI is established according to the Albanian Law for Non-Profit organizations. Its governance structure is defined by its Statute, and composed of the Board of Directors, the Head of the Board of Directors and the Executive Director. The Board of Directors appoints the Executive Director.
The Director takes over all responsibility for the overall management of the organization, financial and human resources included. Our staff is responsible for CDI’s outreach, developing stakeholder relationships and ensuring smooth day-to-day operation. Externally contracted experts join regularly the CDI permanent staff, as per the needs of different projects and initiatives.
CDI uses the services of internationally recognized external auditors for the audit of its yearly accounts, as well as for special projects as and if required by and agreed with the respective donor.
What we do
Through innovative research and public engagement, CDI is actively involved in strengthening institutional governance, promoting regional cooperation, supporting the EU integration of the Western Balkans, and advancing connectivity across sectors.
Since 2015, CDI organizes the Tirana Connectivity Forum (TCF) – the only annual event covering connectivity, reforms and enlargement in SEE6. TCF brings together experts, policymakers, and researchers from the region and the EU, offering a specialized and evidence-based perspective on reform and integration.
In addition, CDI has created the REFORM Tracker Dashboard – a tool designed to track Albania’s key reforms under the Reform and Growth Facility.
