On November 15, 2021 Cooperation Development Institute (CDI) organized the second B2B meeting on “Application of Energy Efficiency Practices in Maritime Sector: The Case of Durres Port” in the framework of the INTERREG IPA CBC Italy-Albania-Montenegro programme project ENEA – Energy Efficiency Living Lab – implemented by CDI Albania in cooperation with CE.F.A.S and Expeditio.
The event took place at the premises of the “Aleksander Moisiu” University of Durres (UAMD) in Durres and it welcomed representatives from Durres Port Authority (DPA), University “Aleksander Moisiu” Durres, Albenecon, LAN-Laboratorio Architetture, Abitare i Paduli Architects, experts, and students.
The focus of this business-to-business meeting was to discuss the main developments in the maritime sector in Albania by taking into account the energy efficiency practices and sharing of experiences between the three Adriatic nations, Albania, Italy, and Montenegro in the field of energy efficiency as well as generate an optimal working environment for all parties involved in port infrastructures.
The event kicked off with the welcome note from Ms. Krisela Hackaj, Executive Director of Cooperation and Development Institute, and Ms. Alma Golgota, Head of Department at Aleksander Moisiu University (UAMD).
The round of presentations began with Ms. Eli Vyshka, lecturer at UAMD, who described the energy efficiency potential of multimodality at Durres Port. She underlined the importance of railway in making this possible.
After her presentation, Mr. Alket Bedini, Director of Development and Infrastructure at Durres Port Authority (DPA), gave a presentation on the actual capacities of Durres Port and the future plans for its relocation at Porto Romano. He described the vision of Durres Port to become a trend-maker in the area of energy efficiency and sustainability.
Afterward, Mr. Andy Zhugli from Albenecon picked up the subject of sustainability of Port operations and possible strategies that DPA can pursue to achieve such sustainability. These strategies were grouped into; Efficient operations, Fuel replacement, Energy efficiency at buildings, and Renewable energy generation.
Furthermore, the Italian partners Mr. Francesco Poli and M. Michele Todisco from LAN-Laboratorio Architetture Naturali described some of their innovative methods of construction with bamboo and other environmentally sustainable materials close to the earth.
In the same vein, Mr. Giorgio Ruggeri and Mr. Francesco Buccarelli, from Abitare i Paduli Architects described similar strategies for constructing farmhouses from common materials found close to the earth and as a result sustainable from the point of view of resources and energy.
The working language of this meeting was Albanian, English, and Italian.
