For a development centered and resilient Growth Plan

Commentary

In November 2023, the European Commission introduced a new Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, accompanied by the Regulation Proposal establishing the Reform and Growth Facility. With a budget of €6 billion—of which €2 billion are grants—the initiative aims to accelerate the region’s economic convergence and provide tangible accession benefits well before EU membership.

This commentary explores the Growth Plan’s transformative potential, highlighting how it can speed up reforms, promote inclusiveness and transparency, and lay the foundations for a more resilient and sustainable path toward EU integration.
