The Forum for International Relations of the European Movement in Serbia and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES – Belgrade) organized in Belgrade on 11th of April 2017 the Stocktaking Conference – Before the Trieste Summit for the 6 countries of the Western Balkans (WB6).
Cooperation and Development Institute (CDI) was invited to present the findings of the study “Monitoring the Berlin Process: from Paris to Trieste”, carried out by CDI and supported by its partners – Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES), Konrad Adenuaer Foundation (KAS) and Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSS).
Mr. Ardian Hackaj, representing CDI, emphasized the contribution of this publication to the current debate on the form and dynamics of the European integration process and the consequences for the Western Balkans.
“Monitoring the Berlin Process: from Paris to Trieste” aims to assess the achievements of the Berlin process in the post-Brexit Europe, the role of Western Balkans civil society, the contribution of business connectivity through European value chains, and the vision of the Italian presidency for the upcoming Trieste Summit, to be held on 12th July 2017. The study also includes an analysis of other similar connectivity and territorial cohesion initiatives where Western Balkans are involved such as EU Territorial Macro Regions and China-backed “16+1 Initiative”.
Local and foreign experts, as well as conference participants, stressed the importance of the Berlin process at strengthening the regional cooperation, political dialogue, and good neighborliness.
