The South-East European 6 (SEE6) region plays a pivotal role in enhancing European competitiveness. With its strategic location, resource-rich environment, and alignment with EU standards, SEE6 offers numerous comparative advantages that can contribute significantly to the EU’s economic growth. By further integrating into EU supply chains, SEE6 can support key sectors such as energy, critical raw materials, digital technologies, and green innovations, helping Europe maintain its global industrial standing while promoting sustainability and resilience.
This document aims to open the debate about region’s contribution to Europe’s competitiveness, showcasing the opportunities for collaboration between SEE6 and the EU in areas like energy transition, industrial policy, and supply chain integration. Its objective is to: i) bring in focus the pivoting of SEE6 (South East Europe 6) in EU integration dynamics from policy-takers to policy-shapers; ii) contribute to the discussion on SEE6-linked comparative advantages; and, iii) encourage the EU to consider SEE6 as strategic partners instead of merely beneficiaries.
