Access to the EU for the SEE6 countries now extends beyond the long-term goal of membership — it increasingly means the ability to engage meaningfully with the EU’s key sector policies, instruments, and funding mechanisms before accession. CDI’s Access EU programme area examines how Albania and its regional partners are navigating this new phase by not only aligning with the EU acquis, but also by adopting and implementing European good governance through inclusive, sustainable, and forward-oriented reforms.
This programme investigates what it takes to participate in the Single Market, tap into cohesion-oriented investments, pitch into Europe’s competitiveness and innovation agenda or contribute to its security — all while anchoring these efforts in democratic governance, social justice, and local ownership. Access EU serves both as a research framework and as a practical platform, enabling the Western Balkans to act as credible and constructive participants in shaping Europe’s future.
